Selected study unit - Chess on Stamps Study Unit

The game of chess is believed to have originated in the northwest of present-day India during the Gupta Empire (which was extant from the 4th to 7th centuries). The Chess on Stamps Study Unit was founded in 1979 to study the game's appearances on philatelic materials worldwide. A checklist of chess stamps and a checklist of known chess stamp errors are both available on the study unit's website, http://www.chessonstamps.org/. Study unit membership includes a subscription to the quarterly Chesstamp Review, which the study unit has published continuously since its founding. Study unit members can also participate in auctions administered by the study unit and also enjoy discounts from the study unit's sales program.
