AMERICAN TOPICAL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NEW SLATE OF OFFICERS
The American Topical Association agreed in their annual Board Meeting in 2007, to
increase the number of Board Members from nine to thirteen. With the retirement of ATA
Founder Jerry Husak in June 2008, five new openings existed on the Board. The newly
elected Board of Directors of the ATA, whose term runs through June 2010, includes:
- President: Jack Andre Denys
- First Vice President: Dalene Thomas
- Second Vice President: Dennis M. Dengel
- Secretary: Laurie J. Ryan
- Treasurer: Dorothy C. Smith
Directors are: Douglas N. Clark, Catherine Fechner, George B. Griffenhagen, Alan J.
Hanks, David Kent, Robert Lamb, Robert J. Mather and Frederick C. Skvara M.D.
The new Board has already created committees to look into upgrading the ATA
Journal Topical Time. The Board voted to immediately start adding color pages
to each issue of the journal with an eye toward going to a full color journal within
the next year and a half. The Topical Time Makeover Team consists of Chairman
Douglas Clark, Chris Calle, George Griffenhagen, David Kent and Sheila Ward. All
options will be open to them including the journal’s size, format, paper, cover and
graphics.
An Executive Search Team was established, consisting of Chairman Robert Mather,
Jack Denys and Frederick Skvara, who will begin a search for a new Executive Director
to replace Ray E. Cartier, whose current contract expires in February. Mr. Cartier will
continue to promote and publicize the ATA’s National Topical Stamp Show. Robert Mather
will take over as the National Topical Stamp Show Chairman, effective with NTSS 09 to be
held in Dayton, Ohio next June 12-14.
A Website Makeover Team has also been established, consisting of Dennis Dengel –
Chairman, David Kent, Robert (Bob) Lamb and Dalene Thomas.
Also, Bob Lamb is heading up a team, as yet to be announced, to address fund-raising for
the non-profit association.
