ATA PRODUCES CHECKLIST OF WORLDWIDE SPACE STAMPS
The American Topical Association has announced that Karen Cartier, the checklist Service
Director, has just completed a 110 page listing of Space Subjects on Stamps. The endeavor
took several months and utilized Scott’s CD Catalog along with many other sources that had to
be combined. Numbers on some of her resource materials utilized Stanley Gibbons or Michel
numbers and had to be cross referenced to Scott.
The listing is in order by country followed by the date of issue, or the year only where the
date is vague or did not appear at all in the catalogs. Following this are the Scott
numbers, where available, and then the Michel numbers, again, where available. A short
description follows in the next column.
The last column is TYPE. In this, she tried to reference the subject matter using numbers
from 1 to 10. 1 = US Manned. 2 = USSR Manned 3 = Satellites 4 = Lunar/Planetary 5 =
Metorological 6 = Rockets 7 = General Space 8 = Balloons 9 = Comets and 10 = X-Planes.

Karen states that she is sure that there are items not included or that may fall in different
categories and asks that anyone who finds items that need correcting contact her at the
office of the American Topical Association.
Checklists are one of the few items sold by the ATA that is a “Members Only” benefit. The
cost of a copy is 50c for the first page or $1.00 for International and 15c per additional
pages for this and all 483 checklists that are currently available. A listing of Astronomy
related stamps is currently being assembled. The cost of this list by mail is therefore
$16.85 in the US and $17.35 international. Membership in the ATA is $20 per year for US
addresses or $39 for two years. International membership is $30 per year or $55 for two
