DAYTON, OHIO TO BE THE SITE OF NATIONAL TOPICAL STAMP SHOW 2009
The American Topical Association Board of Directors has chosen Dayton, Ohio to be the site of the National Topical Stamp
Show which will be held on June 12-14, 2009. The ATA Convention will be housed at the Crown Plaza in downtown Dayton while
the National Topical Stamp Show will be held in the adjacent Dayton Convention Center that is connected to the hotel by a
covered walkway.
Dayton is known for the many technical innovations and inventions developed there. The city was the home of the signing of
the Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the war in Bosnia. It was the birthplace of aviation as Wilbur and
Orville Wright were born there and experimented with the mechanics of powered flight from their Dayton bicycle shop.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, named after the Wright Brothers and Frank Stuart Patterson, son and nephew of the co-
founders of National Cash Register, who was killed on June 19, 1918, in the crash of his Airco DH.4 at Wilbur Wright Field.
This United States Air Force base is located, eight miles northeast of the central business district of Dayton, Ohio.
Wright-Patterson AFB is the headquarters of the Air Force Materiel Command, one of the major commands of the Air Force.
"Wright-Patt" (as the base is colloquially called) is also the location of a major USAF Medical Center (hospital), the Air
Force Institute of Technology, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force, formerly known as the U.S. Air Force
Museum. This is the worldʼs largest aviation museum.
Current ATA President, Robert J. Mather of Waukesha, Wisconsin, will serve as the Show Chairman for this show.
The American Topical Association held its third ATA convention and exhibition in Dayton in June of 1954.
