What to Do with the Material

Physically, you have options on mounting your stamps to album pages.

  • Stamp hinges – small pieces of transparent paper with glue on side, then folded so the glue is exposed and is used on both the stamp and page, forming a paper “hinge.”
  • Stamp mounts – small transparent pockets into which a stamp is placed without any adhesive touching the stamp itself

While the choice is yours, here are some considerations

  • A stamp with completed undisturbed gum is considered “never hinged” (NH)
  • Hinging an NH stamp normally reduces its market value
  • Stamp mounts, when used properly, do not negatively impact the value of a stamp
  • It is very possible that the cost of a mount may be more than the value of the stamp it protects
