Physically, you have options on mounting your stamps to album pages.
- Stamp hinges – small pieces of transparent paper with glue on
side, then folded so the glue is exposed and is used on both the stamp
and page, forming a paper “hinge.”
- Stamp mounts – small transparent pockets into which a stamp
is placed without any adhesive touching the stamp itself
While the choice is yours, here are some considerations
- A stamp with completed undisturbed gum is considered “never
hinged” (NH)
- Hinging an NH stamp normally reduces its market value
- Stamp mounts, when used properly, do not negatively impact the value
of a stamp
- It is very possible that the cost of a mount may be more than the
value of the stamp it protects
