Use index cards or a computer spreadsheet (little more than a series
of index cards that use a keyboard rather than pen to make notes) to log
pertinent information for each stamp or set:
- Country of origin
- Catalog number
- Distinguishing feature of the design to allow you to place it in a
proper category. Some stamps/sets lend themselves to more than one category
and, then, you get to make a decision
- Place the stamp in the most logical (to you) category, or
- Purchase additional copies of the stamp for inclusion all the places
it belongs … recommended for inexpensive items only.
Either attach a glassine envelope with the stamp or set to its index
card, or file the stamps away in a logical order so you can retrieve them
easily once your classification order is set.
