Postal Stationery

The category includes all forms of stationery bearing a printed stamp and made available by a postal administration. The printed stamp also is known as an “indicium.” Included are:

  • Stamped envelopes
  • Postal cards (which have an indicium, “postcards” are privately produced and without an indicium)
  • Letter sheets
  • Aerogrammes (also known as “air letter”)

At one time, the indicia (more than one indicium) of stamped envelopes were cut out and known as “cut squares.” Now, complete items are more often collected. They are known as “entires.”
