Covers

Covers are the philatelic word for “envelope,” with some exception, and quite a few types exist. Following is a list. It is possible that a single cover may fall into two or more of the categories at a time.

Stampless Covers were used prior to the introduction of postage stamps, which prepaid postage. In the United States, postage were not required until 1856.
