Germany was first to have advertising on its stamp booklets, in 1905.
By the 1920s, entire French booklets contained multiples advertisements
from a single firm. In recent years, the use of commercial advertising
has diminished.
Thematic importance of booklets has increased
- 1969 Great Britain booklet, entitled Stamps for Cooks, included
12 recipes printed on gummed labels attached to the panes
- 1972 GB booklet described the history of the famous pottery of Josiah
Wedgewood
