If you choose to include used stamps, select those where the cancellation does not obliterate the stamp’s design

• Remember, a topical collection is based on the design of the stamp

“Mint” indicates that the stamp is in the same condition as when it came from the post office. Now consider the reverse of the stamp.

• “Never Hinged” (NH) indicates that the gum on a mint stamp has not been disturbed by use of a stamp hinge in mounting the stamp into an album
• “Hinged” indicates that traces of a hinge are evident.
