USPS PICTORIAL CANCELLATIONS AND CACHETED COVERS OFFERS
United States Postal Service - Pictorial Cancellations Announcement
Below are shown
USPS Official Pictorial Cancellations
.
Interested collectors can obtain these at no cost by sending one or more stamped
envelopes with a return address to “Postmaster” at the address shown below each cancel.
Place your stamped, self-addressed return envelope(s) in an outer envelope to
the attention of the Postmaster at the address shown below the illustration, to
arrive no later than 30 days after the date of the event as shown. Always
show the –9998 after the postmaster’s zip code as it allows the post office to
know that this is a request for free cancellation(s). You do not have to
enclose a note if you will write the name and date of the event on the lower
left corner of your outer envelope.
Since most envelopes
have a sulphur content, your envelope will probably yellow with age.
Therefore, many collectors prefer to get higher quality envelopes with a
cachet, or related design, printed on the returned covers (envelopes). For
that reason the ATA has a listing following the cancellations shown below, in
which stamp clubs and other organizations promote the sale of their special
covers for sale. Since they provide both the better quality envelopes and the
stamps, the collector can simply send a request to those addresses, along with
a check, and the club will send the cancelled and cacheted covers back to you
directly from the show or the event.
Shows, clubs or organizations wishing to list their sale
items can do so for a $5.00 set-up fee per cancel. Cancels will appear on the
ATA website for 30 days following the date of cancellation.

service publicized.
