2005 ATA CONVENTION SET FOR JUNE 17-19 IN MILWAUKEE

The American Topical Association (ATA) will hold its 2005 annual convention and National Topical Stamp Show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 17-19, 2005.  The ATA convention (and only US all-topical philatelic exhibition) will be held at the Four Points Sheraton, near the Mitchell International Airport (more details when available).

ABOUT THE 2005 SHOW

The National Topical Stamp Show (NTSS-2005) is open to all collectors regardless of society affiliation, provided the entry meets the definition of topical / thematic collecting. ATA defines a topical / thematic exhibit as one that “consists of stamps and other philatelic material chosen for their design rather than for the countries that issued them or the class of postal service they provide.” A thematic exhibit is a topical collection arranged to tell a story.

ABOUT MILWAUKEE

This will be the fourth time since the ATA was formed in 1949 that it will convene in Milwaukee, and the third time in this facility. The 1968 ATA Convention was held at the Sheraton Shroeder Hotel, and the 1993 Annual Convention met at the Grand Milwaukee Hotel (subsequently renamed to Four Points Sheraton). It was hosted by the Waukesha County Philatelic Society with Robert J. Mather serving as General Chairman. Perhaps the most important meeting of all was the 1999 convention, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ATA's founding. It was co-chaired by ATA President Dorothy Smith and Waukesha County Philatelic Society President Robert J. Mather. The 1999 convention featured 250 frames of thematic exhibits from eight countries and a ceremonial session paying tribute to all ATA Charter Members.

ABOUT THE SHERATON

The Four Points Sheraton is the largest convention hotel in the state of Wisconsin, with 508 guest rooms, complimentary parking and 24-hour shuttle service to and from the Mitchell International Airport. PLEASE: Do not forget to mention the ATA when booking reservations!

The show hotel is located across from General Billy Mitchell International Airport at 4747 South Howell Avenue, Milwaukee. There is free shuttle service to and from the airport as well as free parking within yards of the show entrance and free admission. The exhibition is located in the Baton Rouge Ballroom. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
